In 1942, Pancholi produced a film called
Khandaan, which was directed by Shaukat Hussain and starred the singing beauty and its success prompted Noorjehan to leave Lahore for Bombay in search of greener
pastures.Subsequently, she also married Hussain and acted in most of his films including Naukar (1943) and
Jugnu, (1943) which featured Dilip Kumar in the lead.
A position she consolidated with Mehboob's unforgettable Anmol Ghadi, which smashed all kinds of records at that time. Endowed with a classic score from
Naushad, the film was a veritable musical bonanza, what with
Surendra, Noorjehan and Suraiya playing the lead. even today, Anmol Ghadi is best remembered for Noorjehan and Surendra's soulful duet ‘Aawaz de kahan
hai, duniya meri jawaan hai’, or ‘Mere bachpan ke saathi’, or then ‘Jawan hai
mohabbat’.

As it happened, she didn't. Noorjehan migrated to Lahore post-Partition with her husband. But just before her departure she notched up another hit with Jugnu (1947) and ‘Yahan badla wafa ka’.
More than 50 years after she left the Hindi film industry, Noorjehan is still remembered as the one and only 'Queen of Melody'.
