In 1946, the 17-year-old Abhas Kumar Ganguly left his native Khandwa to join Bombay Talkies. Unfamiliar name right? Yes, Abhas Kumar Ganguly was none other than the incomparable playback singer and comic genius Kishore Kumar. His movies 'Asha', 'Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi' and 'Half Ticket' are  comic masterpieces and songs like 'Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhagi Si' from 'Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi' will be treasured forever by Hindi music lovers. He also made films like 'Jhumroo', 'Door Gagan Ki Chaon

Mein' and 'Door Ka Rahi', for which he was actor, director, producer, singer, lyricist and music composer. As comedian and friend Mehmood once said, "…He was in fact a genius. A louder version of Raj Kapoor, an all-rounder who could handle every aspect of cinema, but an all-rounder who enjoyed making noise and being noticed." Forever an iconoclast, Kishore Kumar surprised everyone by making 'Door Wadiyon Mein Kahin' without any songs. While his songs in movies like 'Jewel Thief' and 'Guide' were hugely popular, the success of 'Meri Sapno Ki Rani' and 'Roop Tera Mastana' from Aradhana was stupendous. From then on he sang quite a few songs for the then reigning superstar Rajesh Khanna, songs like 'Rehne Do Chodo Bhi' from 'Kati Patang', 'Chingari Koi Bhadke' from 'Amar Prem', 'Zindagi Ek Safar Hai Suhana' and so on. Though hugely successful, Kishore Kumar had an unhappy personal life. Unhappy marriages and periods of loneliness: that was his lot. In Ocober13, 1987 Kishore Kumar suffered a massive heart attack and just like Mohammed Rafi, died an untimely death.
