All Indian Arts are based on spirituality. From time immemorial the lives of all Indians have developed on the firm basis of spiritual pursuits. Art, religion and culture go together in the way of life of all Indians. Art reflects the experiences of our society and it exists because of the artists and their art is enjoyed by the people. In ancient times the artist was an ordinary talented person who

experienced the joys and sorrows of the society and created his artistic creations from his own experiences as well as from the study of nature and obtained self-expression and satisfaction with his high aims and standards. He was a respected person in his own society. Sometimes, the artists left their homes and lived in lonely places and created art treasures through their complete dedication, sacrifice, inner power and tremendous concentration. It is because of these artists that we can see today the grandeur of Ellora, Ajanta and such other cave temples and paintings. Our ancestors were cruelly exposed to the raids of foreign people but gradually they absorbed the tenets of foreign people and incorporated them in their art. 'Gandhara' and Muslim arts and architecture are examples for this.

Hence, our art has no boundaries. Apart from this, our temples are exquisite treasures of art as they depict in the form of stone sculptures, the various episodes from Purana-s, Mahabharata, Ramayana and other epics and scriptures. In fact, in dance, music and ancient paintings, the depictions of the prowess and praise of our Gods and Goddesses are very prominent-specially on Vishnu, Krishna, Lord Shiva and Rama and Goddess Parvati.
