The ancient sculptors and painters did not write or mention their names on their creations because for them art was more important than self and they became one with the art. As such, we do not know the names of our ancient artists. The names such as Dakkanachari and Jakkanachari are mere names and do not refer to any

person. Such complete negation of one's personality is seen in Kathakali dance wherein the actors submerge their personality in their characteristic make-up and costumes. These dances are therefore capable of giving joy and inspiration to their audience by their extra corporeal delineation.

Beauty in Indian Arts

In India, it is believed that any person who understands and appreciated beauty, who knows the creation of beauty and its forms is a superior human being. The idea of 'Satyam-Shivam-Sundaram that is Truth-goodness-beauty are the essential perquisites of good living. There is no beauty without truth and goodness.
