Tamil Nadu :

The girls of Tanjavoor perform an interesting folk dance called 'Keelattam' which is full of devotion. In this dance, the girls keep a pot in the center over which they keep a burning lamp or an image of god and dance round it clapping their hands and this is similar to Kummi.

This has a lot of fun, joy and discipline making it very absorbing to the audience. In Thirunelvelli, there are many 'Bhoota Nritya-s' or ghost dances prevalent. The performers of this dance do not believe in the sanctum of the gods because of their excessive belief in the ghosts. As such, they name their ghosts and specters as their gods and worship them. These dances are therefore to pacify their ghosts and specters. A solo dancer dressed as ghost and having a peculiar make-up dances in ecstasy to the music provided by his people. In course of time, he falls down on the ground writhing, suggesting that he is completely in the command of the ghosts.

In this condition, the people surrounding him ask him questions regarding their personal troubles and woes and curiously enough he gives apt answers. Naturally the people are satisfied as the answers come through the instigation of their ghost gods.
