Punjab in North India is a unique, flourishing State having its own culture and folk dances which are quite different from those that are found in other parts of India. Any excuse is good enough for the people of Punjab to perform the folk dances and hence, we see them during marriages, harvest season or during rains or any joyous function.

It is a harvest dance performed by farmers after harvesting, in which they dance with joy and fervour. Usually they bring their cattle whose horns are painted red and collect a group in a village. Then the drum starts inviting people to join this dance. The men dancers paint their moustaches and oil them and with jingled feet dance slowly at first round the drummer and later on, with increasing speed. The typical feature of this dance slowly at first round the drummer and later on, with increasing speed.

The typical feature of this dance is the jerking of their shoulders and arms thrown out with great abandon, singing, shouting with words 'Ooh - Bhale - Bhale' with infectious expression of movement. The dance is normally done to songs. Sometimes they sing extempore song which are called 'Boleyan'.
