Kerala :
These 'Nayar-s' perform a mock fight with these dolls, go forward towards the temple, climb up the steps and enter the temple quadrangle and dance vigorously. Some of the dancers show their individual prowess by performing interesting sword play, gymnastics etc. In the end, the speed of these dances reach a climax where they dance in ecstasy. Dancers wear a white lungi, a short banian and golden-edged turban. This is a powerful Tandava dance.

Pulayar Kali :
This is a part of 'Velakali' but performed by all communities. However, this is usually performed by the Harijans called Pulayar during 'Onam' or 'Vishu' festivals. In this dance, the dancers, wearing coloured hand kerchiefs round their heads their heads and holding sticks and shields sing and dance vigorously.

Tereyattam :
Also called Taivettam performed usually in February or March to pacify the gods and demons. People of Malabar, wearing terrifying costumes and having frightening make-up of the gods and demons called Gulikan, Gurikanmar, Koodam Gurikal, Bhairavam Karnavar, Kurumba, Puttan and Kutichatan, dance grotesquely. Sometimes, they wear hideous masks also.

These costumed dancers go to their village temple called 'Kavu' and circle round this temple three times and then uttering some 'Mantra-s' or chanting go to the pond or rivers nearby, catch some chicken, break their necks and offer them as sacrifice to the deity and dance in religious fervour.
