Kerala :

Kolkali or Kolattam :
Such Kolattams or stick dances are prevalent in almost all States of South India. However, in Kerala, the Moplah Muslims perform this dance. But their songs are full of descriptions of Hindu gods and kings. They keep an oil-wick lamp in the center and the men wearing.  

typical 'dhoti-s' sit on the ground and strike the sticks on the ground and between themselves. Later on, they stand up and stamping their feet on the ground, they strike the sticks of others in the group and dance around. As time passes, the speed increases and accordingly the dancers increase their rhythm in the dances.

Kaikottikali :

This dance is performed by the women in Kerala during festival days specially 'Onam' festival. A group of women standing round a burning oil-wick lamp, dance around, singing and keeping the rhythm by clapping their hands and the hands of their partners or other dancers in the group.

 Velakali :
This is powerful dance performed by the 'Nayar-s' of Kerala. In the months of March and April, only a few families perform Velakali in front of Sri Padamanabhaswamy temple in Tiruvancore. These 'Nayar-s' dressed as 'Kaurava-s' holding shields and sticks, enter the street on the sides of which wooden dolls dressed as 'Pandava-s' are kept.
