This dance reflects the devotion to Lord Vishnu as there was an upsurge of Vaishnavism.
Dhoop or Avatar:
A dance performed in Faridpur in which the dancers chanting 'mantra-s' describing the Dashavatara of Vishnu, dance to the accompaniment of 'Dhak' and 'Kansi'. In this Dhoop dance the men carry burning charcoal pots over their heads and often throw inflammable powder on the cinders so that flames are shot up.
Lastly the 'Britachari' movement began in Bengal due to the efforts of the late Sri G.S. Dutt. He has clearly exhibited the martial and masculine 'Brita' dance, in which one can see great flourish and enthusiasm. A 'Britachari' is a person who has made a vow and to make his vow come true, he performs this dance all through the night. This 'Brita' outlines five important observations - namely, knowledge, unity, hard work, joy and truth. This dance by boys and girls is performed to special songs which depict ideals, integrity and internal steadfastness which are the definite paths towards eternal peace and harmony and as such powerful incentives towards useful lives.
