West Bengal:

Bhajo:

This is performed by unmarried maidents in West Bengal during autumn as an invocation to Lord Indra. Previously all girls used to perform these, but now-a-days only upper class girls dance this. Instead of the big 'Dhak' dance, the small 'Dhol' or 'Madhav' is played and the girls dance with devotion to the rhythm of these drums. The Bhojo dance is usually performed during marriages and other happy functions.

Raibhenshe:
This martial dance is performed only by men in Beerbhoom, Burdvan and Murshidabad districts to the rhythm of the Dhol and Kansi which is a Gong. They tie the jingle bells to their right leg and dance with great vigour. There is a lot of shouting, sword play, dagger play and mock archery. Naturally the men show off their intricate gymnastics - thus projecting their manlihood and power.

Kathi:

The lower class people of Beerbhoom perform this dance in which men stand in a circle holding short sticks and striking them with one another and dancing to the rhythm of the 'Dhol'. This is similar to Kolattam. The movements are virile and powerful. Sometimes they use the sword and the shield instead of sticks.

Dhale:
This is a martial dance of Jessore and Khulna done to the rhythm of the Dhol and Kamsi by men wielding swords. Sometimes, the dancers are so carried away by the rhythm and dance that they perform real sword duets and duels.
