West Bengal:

Bengal, a land replete with writers, artists, thinkers, poets, philosophers is full of ritual and martial folk dances. The great poet of Bengal - Rabindranath Tagore seeing the beauty and poetic magnificence of the folk songs of Bengal, opened the eyes of the world to the excellence of Bengal folk dance. 

In Bengal, the rich and the poor without any social differences take part in their folk dances. This demeanour gives rise to inspiration to the poets and writers of Bengal. These artists proclaim the greatness and unique culture of Bengal.

Brita or Vrita Dances:
This is the most important traditional folk dance of Bengal. In the village of Rajaghat situated in the districts of Jesore, the people perform the Pot Dance or 'Ghat Olano'. Similarly the married young girls of West Bengal perform the Bhajo dance. Ghat Olano or Vrita dance is an invocational dance performed by the barren women of Bengal who worship in gratitude after their wish being fulfilled. Quite often, this dance is performed after a recovery from a contagious disease like small pox etc. it is also done after they overcome their family troubles. After the first step of this dance is over, the women keep the pots in certain place and dance to the lilting songs accompanied by the rhythm of the Dhol. The lower class of people play the 'Dhak', a percussion instrument and they dance in a circular manner bending gracefully and with great enthusiasm. This dance is full of devotion and hence performed by all devotees.
