Andhra Pradesh:

The Sate of Andhra, which is the birth place of the famous Kuchipudi Dance, has various folk dance forms such as 'Dappu Vadyam', Mathuri, Bathkamma, Kummi, Kolatam etc., and also many tribal dances such as Lambani, Siddhi and Chenchu tribal dances.

Dappu Vadyam:
Dappu is a percussion instrument which the local Harijans play with a short stick and dance bending their bodies back and front, sometimes sitting, sometimes standing. The dancers wearing short 'dhotee-s' tied up to their knees and a short turban to cover their heads, dance to the varying rhythms of the 'Dappu.'

Mathuri:
This is a folk dance performed by both men and women in the district of Adilabad. The men and women form two separate groups either in straight lines or in circles or groups. While the men play on the sticks they hold in their hands, women keep the rhythm by clapping their hands. Both the groups dance to the varying rhythms of the percussion instrument and the cymbals. The men wear 'dhothee-s,' waist coats and turbans while the women wear multi-coloured skirts, blouses and 'dupatta-s' or veils. This dance is performed during marriage ceremonies and such other joyous functions.
