African Dances :

African dance is a dynamic and rich phenomenon. It is very difficult to classify all African dances. Each is linked to a manifestation of human activity. In different regions of Africa, there are dances to depict important events in the community, such as war, harvest, thanksgiving, and death. Dance is the loyal companion of the African native from cradle to grave. The rhythms and steps of modern dances are products of African music and dance.

To see Africans perform their dances is indeed an extraordinary aesthetic adventure. Their dance is admirable, natural, graceful and elegant in its gestures and steps, distinguished by unrivalled charm and harmony in the lines of both bodies and dance. It is an integrated art of movement which is controlled by the music. The traditional African dance is an expression of emotions, sentiments, and belief. Although dancing is a way of life in Africa, it is also a major source of entertainment in the community.

Most African dance troupes utilize indigenous musical instruments. The type and style of dance movements are dependent on the musical instruments. Although drums and piccolo are common musical instruments in the Ibo tradition, zylephone and others are also common. While the traditional African music has made significant contributions to modern music, it remains the soul of African culture. Every experience in the culture is translated into music and dance.
