One of the most fascinating persons in the world of Indian classical music is Pandit Shivkumar Sharma. He is responsible for the introduction of the Santur into Indian classical music. The Santur has been used for centuries in the valley of Kashmir, in art and folk music of the
region. It is a relative of the Western Hammered Dulcimer. Pandit Sharma, after training in vocal music and
tabla, and then developed his ground breaking technique on the Santur with his father, a famous vocalist from Kashmir.
