Bansari
:
This word covers a variety of flutes. Banse means bamboo, and so any flute made of bamboo is called a
bansari. Nowadays, many are made of metal. A number are end-blown while others, like the Lord Krishna's
murli, are side blown. The humble bansari with its range of just under two octaves has been developed and elevated to the concert
platform. Also long modern flutes with a wider range are now being made to meet the special demands of classical music.
