Ghana Vadya :
There are many types of temple bells and gongs. Among the cymbals are the small brass, dome-shaped MANJIRA and the larger JHANJ and KARTAL. The KASH-TARANG is a xylophone made of wood and is played with a pair of sticks. The JALTARANG is the best known name under this heading.

It consists of a series of porcelain bowls of different sizes, each containing a particular volume of water. The bowls are struck with a pair of small sticks so that the instrument is rather like a water xylophone. Sometimes the sticks are discarded and the player rubs the rims of the bowls with a wet finger. The jaltarang in such instances become a glass harmonica.
